Work From Home and Find Your Sanity

Hey there and welcome back to the place where we make real estate simple.

So last week, on Instagram, a lot of you told me that you did in fact want some tips on how to be more productive while working from home. Now I’m going to cover some great tips that help me work from home. Of course I’m used to it, because of course in real estate, it’s not a 9-5 job, it’s definitely a lifestyle thing.

So I’m going to share some things that will help you be more productive and more mentally and emotionally able to handle everything that’s going on because of course, we are experiencing the challenges of the COVID-19 quarantine. And what I’m going to do is help you adapt. Are you ready to get started? Let’s do it.

So how do I get everything done? How do I stay productive, motivated, and sane? Isn’t that the key word? Yes, a lot of us are working from home, we’ve got our families– our kids, and our spouse —- and we still need to get things done.

So the first thing I’m going to address is that not everybody has a home office — fact. Not everyone needs one. So if you’re working from home now, how is that going to look different and how can you actually get things done? Whether you live alone or with other family members, or other people, you’re going to need a place that you want to be.

You’ll read articles that say that you need a quiet spot. But, that’s not for everyone. I need more than a quiet spot. For me, I need a space that is motivational and keeps me focused.

  1. Thoughtfully put up quotes, motivational images and other adornments like art or flowers that will make your space more pleasant. Adopt items from other areas in your home if you need to.
  2. Identify you workplace style. Try to recreate that. Ex. If you like hearing voices and music that do that. Don’t make your area quiet just because someone recommended that.
  3. Identify your thinking and processing style. Do you need to be alone? Do you need to have no distractions? Create separation — even a curtain or bed sheet if you don’t have an actual office.
  4. Understand your biorhythm. Schedule breaks that suit your body and work type. Snacks and water as per your needs.
  5. Bribe yourself if you need to. Yes you can. You’re an adult.
  6. Avoid eating meals at your desk.
  7. Go outside, stretch your legs, get fresh air.
  8. Get up, dress up, and show up. Or not. It’s up to you, but that works for me. Shower….somewhat regularly.
  9. Give yourself permission to protect and attend to your mental health. Allow yourself to feel — emotions are energy and need to move. It doesn’t mean you need to dwell — just give permission to be human.
  10. Use, or download an affirmation app. This is my favourite one so far: Daily Affirmations by Magnetic Lab

I hope this was helpful and as always, if you’d like me to cover a topic you have in mind, reach out. I’m always happy to hear your suggestions!
